Oar from the RMS Lusitania

The RMS Lusitania, the British Ocean Liner and for a brief time the world’s biggest ship, was torpedoed off the Cork coast on 7th May 1915.

Only 6 of the ship’s 48 lifeboats were launched successfully.

An oar washed ashore from one of the lifeboats after the sinking is on display in St Barrahane’s Church, Castletownshend.
