The Archdeacon of Cork, Cloyne and Ross is the Venerable Andrew Orr, who is also Chaplain to Midleton College, Priest-in-Charge of Youghal Union and Honorary Canon of St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, Cork, with responsibility for environmental issues and climate change.

The Archdeacon is a senior position in the Diocese, whose role is to aid and assist the Bishop in the Bishop’s pastoral care and office.

The Archdeacon is often called the Oculus episcopi: ‘the bishop’s eye.’  This is because Church law lays down that ‘the archdeacon is at all times to watch, inquire, and report whatever may need the consideration and control of the bishop, and more especially when the bishop may direct the archdeacon to make inquiry.’

The Archdeacon also generally assists the bishop in such administration as the bishop may require.
