St Matthias National School is a Church of Ireland National School under the patronage of the Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.

Built in 1901 to serve what is now the Ballydehob Union of Parishes,St Matthias is a co-educational school where all pupils are equally valued and respected-regardless of gender,religious beliefs,social or cultural background, or family circumstances.

St Matthias National School serves the wider community beyond the boundaries of the Ballydehob Union of Parishes and welcomes students of all religious backgrounds or none, fostering an atmosphere of tolerance and respect for individual differences and promoting freedom of thought.The school upholds the christian values of honesty, dignity, justice, civic responsibility, sensitivity towards others, and a healthy respect for self and all of creation.

In cooperation with the Parent’s Association and with the support of the Board of Management, St Matthias National School aims to promote the full and harmonious development of all aspects of the person:intellectual, physical, moral, and spiritual, with an emphasis on developing the student’s awareness of having a unique place within the community and the Church.
