Kilgarriffe National School is located in the town of Clonakilty in beautiful West Cork. (We are 300m from SuperValu roundabout just off the road to Ring.)
Ours is a small and friendly school with a Church of Ireland ethos. It is co-educational and open to all. The school is a community where all pupils are equally valued and respected – irrespective of gender, religious and social background, family circumstances or intellectual functioning. Through assemblies and class time the school seeks to develop a sense of Christian values, hand in hand with the curriculum (especially Social Personal and Health Education), and to maintain Christian standards of behaviour throughout the school day, in both the classroom and the playground.
We encourage freedom of thought and we encourage each child to develop a relationship with God. Religious education is based on the programmes supplied by the Church of Ireland Board of Education.
KNS encourages an ethos where the children internalize spiritual, moral and social values. This enables the children to live their lives with dignity, honesty, fairness, civic responsibility, tolerance, kindness and sensitivity to others.
The Parents’ Association organises a full range of extra- curricular activities. These vary from term to term, but may include: basketball, hockey, football (Gaelic), swimming, tag rugby and tennis; as well as Irish Dancing, speech, elocution, drama and modern dance.
