2016 – Centenary of the Easter Rising

In 2016, to mark the centenary of the Easter Rising in 1916, the Government of Ireland arranged for the national flag to be delivered to all schools in the country.

On 15th March 2016 schools were asked to hold a ‘proclamation day’ when the children of today would write their own proclamation embodying their vision for our society and country.   The Bishop visited quite a number of the schools that day to join in the proclamations and celebrations.  Here are some photos:

On 17th March, Saint Patrick’s Day, a representative from each school took part in the annual Civic Service and carried forward the ‘proclamation’ written by their school.  Afterwards they and their families were received by the Bishop and Mrs Colton at their home.
